Questions about my Seattle Postpartum Doula services?

Q. What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who comes alongside families during the early days with their new baby to offer tangible and practical support as well as education and emotional processing. Postpartum doulas such as myself are trained in supporting childbirth recovery for the birthing parent as well as infant sleep, feeding, and development and can provide families with encouragement, education, and community resources to help the entire family flourish during postpartum.

Q. How are you different from a nanny or baby nurse?

The primary focus for nannies and baby nurses is caring for the baby. The focus of a postpartum doula is supporting parents as they learn how to care for their new child and, in the case of the birthing parent, recover from childbirth. I am happy to care for the baby in a limited capacity so that the parents can rest or have time for self-care but I also support and educate parents in infant care. I love the babies but my heart (and training) is in education and I love to leave parents feeling set up for success as they are rested, fed, encouraged, and informed.

Q. Are you able to work with Carrot (or other employer benefits)?

Most likely, yes! As a certified doula who carries liability insurance, I have worked with many families who use Carrot and other types of employer benefits. I am happy to discuss details with you to see if I meet the necessary requirements.

Q. Do you cook and clean?

I do light housekeeping like tidying up, organizing baby items and the nursery, laundry, and dishes. I will make sure you have had a healthy snack or meal and something to drink and I am happy to prep nutritious snacks or the start of a meal (i.e. cutting up veggies or putting items in the crock pot). However, I don’t do more extensive cooking or cleaning and that is better left to more qualified professionals. I am happy to connect you with some wonderful house cleaners who will do an amazing job deep cleaning your home and some catering and food delivery services to ensure you are all well-fed. I can also help you set up a meal train!

Q. Do you babysit older siblings?

My focus is on the whole family adjusting to the arrival of the new baby and that includes the big siblings but my primary role is not babysitting. I am happy to support parents and siblings to help you all learn how to incorporate big brother or sister into caring for and loving on the new baby. I am not able to offer babysitting just for the older siblings and can provide you with names of qualified nannies and babysitters who will do a wonderful job caring for your older child.

"Having Leah as our private childbirth teacher and postpartum doula is the best decision we've made in preparing and caring for our first child! She has everything we looked for in getting us ready for the birth and helped us feel confident in newborn caring. I'd hire Leah again and again!"

-AG

"Leah was absolutely amazing. She handled our girls with care and love and approached us with empathy and compassion. She also provided knowledge, support, and guidance as we began our parenting journey and helped me feel confident as a new mother. I would hire Leah again in an instant and feel so lucky to have found her."
- LM

"Leah is an absolute joy to work with! She is kind, understanding, and extremely knowledgeable. We had her help following the birth of our twins and my c-section and it was such a relief not only having the extra set of hands but having the reassurance of her expertise, especially as a first-time parent."
- MG

"Leah was an absolute joy to work with. She cared for our newborn and assisted for a few months with overnights so that we could get a bit of sleep. My husband and I looked forward to these nights as we knew that our son would be well cared for. My husband even said that he did not wake up even once while Leah was there, she was that good at calming our baby and caring for him. I could not recommend her more."
- AD

"Leah provided great support to our family. She is so knowledgeable and professional. As a first-time mom, I had many questions, and she answered all my questions and even sent me lots of information about my questions. She is so patient and always eager to listen to the issues I was facing. If you need a very professional and knowledgeable doula, I strongly recommend Leah"
- BA

"As a doula, Leah was the BEST! She was such a positive force in our home. She listened to my concerns and never passed judgment on me. She was someone I trusted immediately and her presence in my home was calm, helpful, and necessary for all of us as we adjusted to our new family life. Can't rave enough!"
- MC

"Aside from tending to the baby through the night, she helped prepare healthy snacks for me and eagerly listened to the issues I was facing, often providing suggestions of resources I could consider for further insight. I really appreciated the encouragement and suggestions she gave, as the fog of sleepless nights plus the constant basic function of baby left little brainpower/time to follow a problem to a possible solution or next step. My husband and I definitely felt empowered by her support and are very happy we chose to work with Leah"
